The Macintosh Color Classic, also known as the Macintosh Colour Classic in PAL regions, was a personal computer designed and manufactured by Apple Computer, Inc. It was available from February 1993 until May 1995 (and continued in PAL markets until January 1998). Here are the key details about this iconic machine:

  • Design and Display:
    • The Color Classic featured an all-in-one design with a compact form factor.
    • It came equipped with a small, integrated 10-inch Sony Trinitron display at a resolution of 512 × 384 pixels.
    • The display could support thousands of colors with a video memory upgrade.
  • Hardware Specifications:
    • CPU: Powered by a Motorola 68030 CPU running at either 16 MHz.
    • Memory: Initially had 4 MB onboard RAM, which could be upgraded to 10 MB.
    • With a logic board upgrade, it could unofficially support up to 128 MB of RAM using 100 ns 30-pin SIMMs.
    • Expansion Slot: Like the Macintosh SE and SE/30, the Color Classic had a single LC-type Processor Direct Slot (PDS). This slot was primarily intended for the Apple IIe Card, which allowed the LCs to emulate an Apple IIe.
    • Other cards, such as CPU accelerators, Ethernet, and video cards, were also available for the Processor Direct Slot.
  • Accessories:
    • The Color Classic shipped with the Apple Keyboard II (M0487), featuring a soft power switch on the keyboard itself.
    • The included mouse was the Apple Desktop Bus Mouse II (M2706).

Despite its modest specifications, the Macintosh Color Classic holds a special place in computing history due to its affordability and compatibility. It bridged the gap between the classic Macintosh design and the transition to more powerful machines. 🖥️🌈
